Routes to Employment
There are generally eight different aspects to moving into the world of work:
1. Apprenticeships - there are different types of apprenticeship opportunities across almost all career sectors
2. Business - setting up your own business or joining the family business
3. College - college offer a range of courses across many vocational areas
4. Training - many youngsters benefit from training and support prior to embarking on a career
5. University - is of particular relevance when clearly linked to a career
6. Volunteering - this may be in the form of a gap year or a series of other activities
7. Work - there are a number of opportunities for school leavers to go directly from school into employment
8. Work Experience - again, this is a good use of a gap year - to build up experience and also to earn some money to help pay for the next part of the journey
Nowadays, a lot of youngsters will have a combination of these aspects along the way towards reaching a positive destination that best suits their individual skills and abilities.
